Awards and Recognition: George Vourvoulias

Avvo Client’s Choice

George has received Avvo Client’s Choice recognition.

The recognition reflects the confidence clients have placed in him during cases that could determine their ability to work, support their families, and rebuild their lives after a serious maritime injury.

George remains personally involved in every case. He investigates the accident, confronts attempts to shift blame onto the worker, and prepares the evidence needed to challenge companies with far greater legal and financial resources.

Avvo Excellent Rating

George holds an 8.5 Excellent rating on Avvo.

That rating is supported by more than 20 years of maritime litigation, an advanced degree in Admiralty and Maritime Law, intensive trial training, professional achievements, and recognition from clients and other attorneys.

It reinforces the reputation he has built as a knowledgeable, prepared, and highly committed maritime injury attorney.

Just Great Lawyers Verified Attorney

George is recognized as a verified attorney by Just Great Lawyers.

His professional profile reflects a practice firmly rooted in maritime law and a career dedicated to injured workers.

That depth of focus matters in cases governed by legal protections, procedures, and definitions that do not apply to ordinary personal injury claims. George brings that specialized knowledge to every case he accepts.

Professional Credentials and Maritime Law Experience

A Career Built in Maritime Law

George received his Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1998. He continued his legal education at Tulane University Law School, earning his LL.M. in Admiralty and Maritime Law in 1999.

He has spent more than two decades representing workers in maritime and offshore injury cases.

His practice includes Jones Act negligence, unseaworthy vessel claims, maintenance and cure disputes, vessel collisions, unsafe equipment, offshore accidents, maritime wrongful death, and serious injuries sustained on navigable waters.

These cases can depend on the classification of the vessel, the worker’s duties, the location of the accident, the condition of the equipment, and the relationship between the worker and the employer.
George understands those distinctions because maritime law is not one service offered by his firm. It is the foundation of his practice.

Advanced Trial Training

George completed the Trial Lawyers College in 2015.

The intensive program strengthened his skills in trial preparation, case development, witness examination, courtroom advocacy, and communication with judges and juries.

George uses that training to uncover the complete story behind a maritime injury. He examines the working conditions aboard the vessel, the decisions made before the accident, the company’s safety practices, and the effect the injury has had on the worker’s health, income, and future.

When a case involves conflicting accounts, missing records, unsafe procedures, company pressure, or an attempt to blame the worker, that level of preparation becomes critical.

Bar Memberships and Court Admissions

George is affiliated with the Louisiana State Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, and International Society of Barristers.

He is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Louisiana and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

His education, professional affiliations, and federal court admissions support a practice built to handle serious maritime claims from the initial investigation through trial and appeal.

Serious Jones Act and Maritime Injury Cases

George represents workers in cases involving vessel collisions, defective equipment, dangerous working conditions, inadequate training, safety violations, denied medical care, and failures to provide maintenance and cure benefits.

Maritime cases may require the review of vessel logs, accident reports, inspection records, maintenance documents, safety procedures, employment records, medical evidence, electronic communications, and witness testimony.

The company may argue that the worker caused the accident, that the vessel was reasonably safe, that the injury was unrelated to the job, or that the worker is not entitled to Jones Act protection.

George examines every claim according to the evidence and maritime law. He does not rely on a standard case strategy or treat one worker’s circumstances as interchangeable with another’s.

Each case is developed around what happened, who was responsible, and what the injury has taken from the worker.

A $1.6 Million Maritime Jury Verdict

In Neal v. International Offshore Services, LLC, George represented a maritime worker who was the sole survivor of a devastating Mississippi River collision.

Before trial, the company offered $100,000.

George took the case to a jury and secured a $1.6 million verdict for his client. The verdict was sixteen times greater than the company’s offer.

The case demonstrates the importance of preparing a maritime injury claim for trial. When a company refuses to accept responsibility or recognize the true value of a worker’s losses, the evidence must be strong enough to withstand the courtroom.

George prepares his cases with that possibility in mind from the beginning.

Direct Representation When the Stakes Are High

George personally supervises the firm’s cases and remains directly involved throughout the legal process. He works with investigators, medical professionals, maritime experts, vocational specialists, and other professionals when additional investigation or specialized analysis can strengthen the claim.

This work may include examining vessel records, identifying unsafe conditions, locating witnesses, reviewing medical evidence, calculating lost earning capacity, and challenging conclusions reached by company doctors or insurance representatives. Clients receive guidance from an attorney who knows the evidence, understands the legal issues, and recognizes the consequences the injury has created.

George explains the legal process clearly, answers questions directly, and prepares clients for the decisions that must be made during the investigation, negotiations, and trial preparation.

The Maritime Injury Law Firm: Built for Injured Workers

The Maritime Injury Law Firm represents workers after offshore accidents, vessel collisions, falls, lifting injuries, equipment failures, exposure incidents, and other serious accidents on the water.

The firm’s work begins with a careful examination of the accident and the legal protections available to the worker. George reviews how the injury occurred, the condition of the vessel and equipment, the company’s safety procedures, and the benefits the worker should be receiving.

He also considers the consequences that extend beyond the immediate injury. A maritime accident may threaten the worker’s ability to return offshore, obtain proper medical treatment, maintain financial stability, and continue supporting a family.

Those consequences demand more than a surface-level claim. They require a complete understanding of the worker, the vessel, the accident, the medical evidence, the law, and everything that may have been lost.

Every unsafe condition must be examined. Every responsible party must be identified. Every available source of compensation must be pursued.

The Maritime Injury Law Firm is based in New Orleans and represents injured maritime workers nationwide.
